Assuming you're not too busy scrambling for pocket-sized parkas or building an ark to keep you afloat during the record-breaking summer rainfall we've had in Savannah, you've got little excuse to stay home this weekend. From a modern take on Euripedes' epic-play "Medea" at 4th World Theater, to a colorful 5K through historic downtown resulting in layers of rainbow paint on white T-shirts, to a summer block party marking the 94th anniversary of the famed Leopold's Ice Cream, there's no shortage of cultural events, athletic competitions, family-friendly celebrations and, of course, late night live music and nightlife events for the revelers among us.
So. stop fretting over whether the NSA is covertly listening in on your phone calls and emails for just a little bit, and get out and enjoy all the city has to offer -- rain, snow, sleet or shine (has it ever actually snowed in Savannah before? I'm honestly not sure). Before you head out, stock up on some deliciious Wonka oatmeal sandwiches from the new BTByrd's, or pick up a 64-ounce jug of craft brew from the new 41-tap Beer Growler store - both of which just opened shop on the ground floor of the newly refurbished Drayton Tower Apartments.
Because really, what else are you going to spend your weekend doing? Going on an irrational spending spree at the new Whole Foods Market just because it's there and you're craving something from the pickle bar? Stalking the Deen family's Twitter feeds to find out what will happen next in the ongoing Paula-gate saga? While both of those options personally sound thrilling to me, there are better, more memorable opportunities to seize over the weekend.THE TOP 10 LIST
