If you dig browsing photos and videos on thechive.com and want get to know some people who do the same, you're in luck.
A local group dedicated to the wildly popular image- and video-sharing entertainment site is calling all local "Chivers" to congregate downtown and at the beach.
The two-day unofficial meetup kicks off July 26 outside Wild Wing Cafe in City Market and picks back up July 27 on the beach south of the Tybee Island Pier and Pavilion.
"It's a way for people who otherwise wouldn't know each other to get together, have a drink and have a good time," said Ryan Murphy, the 29-year-old architect who started the Chive On Savannah page on Facebook in late May.
A college buddy introduced Murphy to The Chive about a year ago, and he quickly became a fan.
Murphy bought a T-shirt that references the site, and people around town who recognized the shirt would introduce themselves.
"Once people know you're part of the community, it opens up an ad hoc friendship, I guess," Murphy said.
He's hoping the meetup and Internet presence will introduce more people to that community.
Pretty soon after announcing the details of the meetup, word spread on Facebook and about 100 users liked the Chive On Savannah page in a week's time.
People he'd never met even volunteered to take on certain aspects of the unofficial group's Savannah presence, such as running its Twitter account.
If this meetup is successful, Murphy said he'll plan others that will double as fundraisers for charities.
"I'm hoping everything goes smoothly," he said. "It's kind of funny throwing a party for a bunch of people I haven't met yet. I think the following is there. We just need to get the ball rolling and see who's out there."
