Summer Cabaret Series moves to new home at The Westin

03 Jul 2017

Fans of the Summer Cabaret Series at the Lucas Theatre need not despair.

The cabaret series isn’t gone, it just has a new home. Set for five shows from July 6 through Aug. 3, the fifth anniversary series will be presented at the Ben Tucker Pavilion at The Westin Savannah Golf Resort & Spa.

The shows will be presented every Thursday at 8:30 p.m. Up first will be “R E S P E C T — An Evening of Southern Soul” on July 6, featuring singers Cecilia Arango and Laiken Williams accompanied by pianist Eric Jones.

“They were looking for a new place,” says David S. Moses, director of public relations and communications for The Westin. “We believe if it happens in Savannah, it should happen at The Westin.

“While theaters are beautiful, we think the facilities here are spectacular. They came over here and explored the harbor and the Ben Tucker Pavilion and could see a vision of entertainment.

“We have golf course views, the pavilion setting and great acoustics,” Moses says. “When the sun sets, it’s quite impressive.”

Audience members will still get an intimate show.

“What was neat about the event at the Lucas is that the audience sat on stage and were up close and personal with the artists and performers,” Moses says. “You get that same feeling inside the pavilion.

“We did something similar last year with Jeremy Davis and the Fabulous Equinox Orchestra. They are coming back in September to do something once a month.

“We want people to cross the Savannah River, which is not the Atlantic Ocean,” he says. “It is so easy to get across for a lovely evening.”

Moses suggests concert goers might want to make a day of it at The Westin.

“We’ve got the Heavenly Spa and the golf course,” he says. “You can take a vacation and see fine performing artists. It’s like a little getaway and you don’t have to go far to do it.”

The Coastal Jazz Association hosts monthly performances at the pavilion.

“That pavilion can probably fit 200 comfortably in theater-style seating,” Moses says. “They’re going to be serving food and beverages.

“It’s a really nice evening in the summer,” he says. “It’s climate-controlled and the views and entertainment are stunning.”
