August in Savannah has a reputation: hot, humid and dead.

But, that's not so true. Sure, people tend to hunker down with their air conditioners or head out of town for vacation, but the vast majority of us locals are still here wearing our summer heat like a badge of honor. And, it's turning out to be a great time of year for music in the Hostess City.

Lots of bands are in the midst of their summer tours and Savannah is pickin' 'em off I-95 in droves (and many are pairing with local bands who are riding out the summer, as well). Once we get closer to Labor Day, well, things are kind of on fire.

In fact, there's so much good music headed our way over the next few months that we felt a playlist was in order (we love DO's playlists!). It's a great way to check out a track from a band you might not be familiar with and put together your own personal summer concert series.

We've curated 17 tracks from upcoming shows in August and September and we'll add more as we get them.

Keep in mind, this doesn't even include Revival Fest (which is Sept. 14; you can listen to the entire lineup at revivalfest.org) or the world-class Savannah Jazz Festival from Sept. 22-28 (lineup TBA).

August kicks off with a show we are producing at The Jinx featuring Chicago quartet Filligar, on tour to support their new album "Hexagon." The critics are aligned on this one - if you're a fan of Wilco and solid Americana rock, you're gonna love this record.

But Americana's just one genre reflected here.

Metal fans will be psyched that Savannah's own Black Tusk is back at The Jinx on Aug. 9, fresh off the release of new EP "Tend No Wounds," and Atlanta's Lazer/Wulf will join locals Bear Fight for a hard rock/soft metal throwdown on Aug. 10.

And boy, do we love us some Randall Bramblett. The legendary Georgia musician returns to Savannah on Aug. 23 to help christen the newly re-named former LiveWire Space on River Street.

But the great music isn't just for weekends. Summer's also a great time for Savannah to pick up early to mid-week shows from bigger artists.

So, yes, you can dance to one of the greatest songs of all time on a Wednesday night when Modern English's "I'll Melt With You" wafts through the rafters at Dollhouse Productions' amazing space on Industry Drive on Aug. 28.

One week later, SCAD alum and rising star Helado Negro hits the same stage with his artistic Latin-tinged electronica, or you can check out the newer side of the music equation when Detroit hipsters Jamaican Queens turn a quiet Tuesday night in September into a dance party at Hang Fire.

Yes, there's a little something for everyone in this mix tape; a melting pot of artistic musical madness.

Just like Savannah!
