UPDATE: Savannah musician dies after motorcycle crash

08 Nov 2014

Jonathan Athon, the 32-year-old Savannah musician who was involved in a motorcycle accident Friday night, died early Sunday after being removed from life support, according to a Facebook statement released by his band, Black Tusk.

Athon and Emily Boutwell were riding a 1981 Harley-Davidson Sportster southbound on Price Street on Friday night when the motorcycle crashed into the driver’s door of a 2014 Acura MDX driven east on Jones Street by an 85-year-old Savannah man, said Julian Miller, Savannah-Chatham police spokesman.

Athon and Boutwell, both of Savannah, were taken to Memorial University Medical Center after the 9:28 p.m. wreck. Boutwell is expected to recover.

The statement said Athon’s organs will be donated and a memorial is being planned for family and friends in Savannah.

The police department’s Major Accident Investigation Team is continuing to investigate the wreck.
