You've heard the old saying, "Get those creative juices flowing," but the Arts Administration students at Savannah College of Art and Design are taking it to another level.

The creACTIVE: mind, body, art event on May 25 will explore the connection between the mind, body and creative expression and how creative juices typically flow better with regular physical activity and a healthy mind and body.

The event features physical activities like yoga and meditation, art activities like painting, writing and a drum circle, healthy food, docent-led museum tours and a panel discussion exploring the topics of creativity and wellness.

Ha'Ani Hogan, SCAD arts administration graduate student, helped put this first-time event together.

"The event planning class is always tasked to put together an event for the community in Savannah," Hogan said. "We have nine weeks to plan and execute an event."

According to Hogan, the creACTIVE event is "super-
different from anything past event planning classes have put together. It's a full day of activities instead of just one big event."

The day begins at noon in Orleans Square.

"The early part of the day is to get people moving and then do something creative," Hogan said. "We will start with a physical activity and then move to something creative."

For example, the group plans to do yoga followed by painting and full-body meditation followed by a writing workshop.

"The point of the exercises is to show that physical activity can increase your creativity," Hogan said.

After the athletic and art activities, the group will head over to SCAD Museum of Art at 3 p.m. for a free reception with healthy foods and drinks catered by Café Bon Appétit through SCAD.

"Entrance to the museum is free for all participants," Hogan explained. "We will also have special tours led by our docents through the galleries."

At 4 p.m., a panel discussion will take place at the museum theater.

"We will have several health, wellness and art experts to discuss the link between creativity and wellness," Hogan said. "We plan to have a representative from the Georgia Art Therapy Association, a SCAD professor of psychology, as well as other experts."

The event is free and open to the public.
