On Dec. 16, The Wormhole at 2307 Bull St. will host its second annual "Rockin' For The Vets" charity show featuring an excellent lineup for four up-and-coming local bands.

The outstanding rock trio Garden Giant hasn't played many public gigs this year, but they'll be headlining the fundraiser at The Wormhole.

Garden Giant will be joined by The Mercers, Mr. Wait and McLeod. The first band will start sometime after 8 p.m. In addition to the full bar, The Wormhole has a solid food menu of wraps, sandwiches, burgers and the like.

All proceeds from the door and from raffles will go toward the Tiny House Project, which serves homeless veterans. Admission will be $5 or two (or more!) canned or boxed food items. You can find out more details on the Facebook event page.

Of course, that's not the only fundraiser on Dec. 16.

As I write this, there are still tickets ($25) available for the seventh annual Homegrown Holiday Hoedown in the glorious second-floor ballroom at the American Legion Post 135, 1108 Bull St. The doors open at 6:30 p.m., with the music starting at 7 p.m.

If you're planning to attend, you should buy a ticket right now via the Facebook event page or the Brown Paper Tickets website. The event will almost certainly sell out.

The 2017 Hoedown features The Train Wrecks, who established themselves years ago as one of Savannah's best live bands, plus Matt Eckstine & Friends and A Very Stan Ray Christmas.

Many of you know Eckstine and Ray from their work with The Accomplices, a band featured at previous hoedowns.

The event includes food from Kayak Café, a photo booth, a cash bar and a variety of other promotions. Loop It Up Savannah is the nonprofit partner again this year, and guests are asked to bring new art supplies, canned goods and other items. You can find a full list when you buy your ticket.

Even if you can't attend either of these fundraisers, this is the perfect time of year to learn more about the nonprofit organizations that are trying to meet needs in our community.
