While the "Nutcracker" ballet has been around for generations, ballet companies pride themselves on their own interpretations of Tchaikovsky's holiday classic - and the Moscow Ballet is no different.

"The Great Russian Nutcracker" takes place Dec. 29 at the Lucas Theatre for a 3 p.m. matinee and a 7 p.m. performance.

This year marks the 25th anniversary tour and has received rave reviews. The Savannah performances also feature the Moscow Ballet's "Dance with Us" program, which enables local dancers to perform side-by-side with these seasoned professionals. Local youth dancers will be seen in the iconic party scene and will also perform as mice, snowflakes, snow maidens and the classic Spanish, Russian, Chinese and French performances.

Not only does the event feature signature Russian touches like hand-painted backdrops, life-sized nesting dolls, a Russian Troika sleigh and Russian legends Father Christmas and Snow Maiden, but the performance also includes a bit of Savannah by partnering with local host dance studio The Ballet School.

Platinum Experience tickets feature an artist meet and greet and gift items. Groups of 10 or more and Girl Scout troops receive discounts by calling 800-320-1733. These are all-ages performances.
