Now that Christmas is over, give your old Tannenbaum one last job to do: Bring it to a recycling event so it can become garden mulch.

With about 300 locations statewide, the 20-year-old "Bring One for the Chipper" event in Georgia is touted as the largest tree recycling program in the nation.

Local events in Savannah are sponsored by the City of Savannah, Keep Savannah Beautiful, Georgia Power and Home Depot.

Chatham County also particpates, as does Fort Stewart/Hunter Army Airfield and Richmond Hill.

Remember to remove all decorations from your tree. You don't want to lose your glass pickle to the chipper. And nobody wants tinsel in their mulch.

"We're just trying to keep trees out of the landfill," said Johnny Davis of Keep Fort Stewart/HAAF Beautiful.
