Southern lifestyle magazine Garden & Gun decided to get in the spirit of March Madness and set up an online bracket featuring 32 Southern towns battling for the title of Greatest Southern Town, and Savannah has made it to the final four.
The magazine editors narrowed down the list by keeping the contest to towns with populations less than 150,000, and Savannah bested Key West in round one, Thomasville in round two, Charleston in round three and Asheville in round four.
The Hostess City is now up against Franklin, Tenn., in the final round.
The battle with Charleston proved interesting for the Coastal Empire, as Garden & Gun's editor-in-chief Dave DiBenedetto, a Savannah native, now lives with his family in Charleston, homebase for the magazine. Savannah won by a narrow margin, and by an even narrower margin against Asheville.
The voting ends April 3, and you can vote once each day.
