You've been playing cornhole in your backyard and at tailgate parties. Now it's time to bring your game to Coach's Corner for a chance to win $300.

The second annual Cornhole Classic benefiting Senior Citizens Inc. is billed as a cornhole tournament with a fish fry and concert by Clear Daze Band.

But Karen Daiss, director of corporate advancement for Senior Citizens Inc., describes it as "a really good time for a really good cause."

"Last year, we were sanctioned by the American Cornhole Association, but this year's event is focused more on just having fun," Daiss said. "Unlike last year, amateurs are welcome to play.

"We are gearing this competition more toward the average player - people who just enjoy playing cornhole in their backyards."

The $100 entry fee for two players includes the fish fry, bottomless cups of beer or non-alcoholic beverages and live entertainment provided by locals Clear Daze Band.

"Actually, Terrie Matthews is the vocalist for Clear Daze, and she is also an activities director at the Senior Citizens Activity Center in Thunderbolt, so they have a special connection with our charity," Daiss said.

While she admits they tweaked a few things this year, some details were perfect the first time around and didn't need improvement.

"Ambos Seafoods donated the fish again this year, and last year, it was really, really good," Daiss said. "We've also partnered with Coach's Corner again..."

While Coach's Corner provides the laid-back, outdoor, courtyard atmosphere the tournament was seeking, Daiss admitted the partnership is also personal.

"One hundred percent of the proceeds from the tournament go to fund special programs at Senior Citizens Inc., and the owner of Coach's Corner, John Henderson, is the son of Al Henderson Sr., who was one of the founders of Senior Citizens Inc. in Savannah," Daiss said.

The tournament will kick off at 6 p.m. June 21. The fish fry and concert will begin at 7 p.m., and the evening should wrap up around 10 p.m.

"We'll also have cash payouts to the top five teams," Daiss added. "The top team will win $300."

Daiss said onlookers are more than welcome to watch the games and enjoy the fish fry, beer and band for $30.

The number of teams is limited, so be sure to reserve your spot soon.
