There was only one Georgia restaurant honored in the National Barbecue news 2018 "Sauces of Honor" competition and it was a Lowcountry favorite.
The national barbecue trade publication identified the tastiest sauces within three categories: beef, chicken and pork. In the pork category, St. Simons Island's Southern Soul Barbecue and their "Sweet Georgia Soul" sauce came in eighth place.
The sauce is the restaurant's signature sauce and described as a "buttery, brown sugar sweet, tangy tomato base with a hint of mustard and a black pepper kick." The sauce can be purchased at the restaurant for $14 for two bottles. This also isn't the first time that Southern Soul has been honored by an online publication as Southern Living named it the best barbecue joint in Georgia earlier in 2018.
