Forsyth Park Farmers' Market organizers say they aren't taking the traditional winter break this year and be out every Saturday through the holiday season. They also add that gift cards to the market make a great gift!
The market and its vendors and volunteers will again be out Dec. 20 to bring Savannah the freshest produce and locally made goods available.
Vendors include Avondale Apiary, Berry Farms, Billy's Botanicals, Canewater Farm, Carolina Plantation Rice, Clark & Sons, Flatland Farms, George Wilson, Georgia Buffalo, Honeydew Farm, Hunter Cattle, Joseph Fields Farm, Ogeechee River Gardens, Ozzie Mack Produce, Readee's Bees, Alake's Pecans, Savannah River Farms, Southern Swiss Dairy, Tierra Verde Farm, Walker Farms, Castra Rota, Chocolat by Adam Turoni, Cup to Cup, Exit Strategy, Foods of the Farm, Frali Gourmet, Meatless Meals, Perc, Vegetable Kingdom, Verdant Kitchen and Morning Glory Natural Plants.
If you can't find your favorite vendor, organizers suggest checking at the main market table.
Vendor of the Week is Canewater Farm, owned and operated by Rafe and Ansley Rivers. They are Georgia natives who recently purchased the land this fall while living on the West Coast.
Canewater Farm was originally a sugar cane plantation and distillery called "The Thicket," Georgia's first rum distillery. It was most recently a property in need of love and creativity.
The family now cultivates 20 acres of farmland. Just more than 18 acres is in Sudex and Buckwheat cover crops, while the rest is in organic vegetables. They will continue to add veggie acreage while maintaining room for livestock, citrus, blueberries, pecans and eventually sugar cane and rum.
Another way to support the market is the Friends of Forsyth Farmers' Market program. For a $25 donation, you get a market tote and a discount card for the vendor of the week. Donations go toward the costs of running the market, such as insurance, banking fees, etc.
