There are plenty of things we all wish to forget about our years in elementary school - assigned seating, pop quizzes, chalkboards - but show and tell isn't one of them.

Getting to share with your friends, being in the spotlight for those few short moments, all eyes on you, was something special. It afforded you bragging rights.

That nostalgia for show and tell is the basis for an open mic night Sept. 13 at The Sentient Bean, said the event's host.

"I just thought about how in middle school, we did show and tell, so I thought it would be kinda fun," said Kelly Kloko, the host for Show and Tell Open Mic and a barista and chef at The Sentient Bean.

"It's really not specific at all, it's whatever anyone wants to bring in to talk about.

"It could be a rock - it can be from any sort of category," she said.

Anyone who attends will be given three minutes on stage to share something special in the open mic-style event, Kloko said.
