There's no need to wait for the halftime show - local high school marching bands will provide a sneak peek of how well their bands are prepared to outperform the competition this football season during the Battle of the Drumlines.
Drumlines from Savannah High, Beach, Jenkins, Johnson and other area high schools will perform at Battle of the Drumlines at 3 p.m. Aug. 10 at Savannah High School.
The event is hosted by E-93 radio personalities Harmony and CJ the DJ. Additional musical entertainment will be provided by DJ Ignant.
"The band rivalries in Savannah are timeless," said event host CJ Jackson, also known as CJ the DJ. "A lot of folks love the halftime show and this event plays off of that energy."
Because drumlines are typically the loudest and largest section of a high school band, organizers hope to strike up excitement about area high school music programs and the friendly school rivalries with the drumline competition.
The high school percussionists will be judged on showmanship, precision, marching ability and more.
Proceeds from the $10 admission price will be divided among the participating high school bands to help cover operating costs.
Savannah High Band Director Marvin Johnson said students from each school band will showcase their talent and some of the new material they learned over the summer.
When: 3 p.m. Aug. 10
Where: Savannah High School gymnasium, 400 Pennsylvania Ave.
Cost: $10 admission will benefit the participating high school bands. Tickets are available in advance at Image is Everything Barbershop at 200 E. Montgomery Cross Road.
"At Savannah High, we never sleep," Johnson said. "Our drumline has been practicing over the summer and they are a well-oiled machine. They're ready."
Beach High Band Director Derrick Sneed said his 20-member drumline spent the summer practicing new and exciting material.
"We try to add some theatrics and put on a good show," Sneed said.
