Famed Georgia chef Hugh Acheson announced in April he would open a restaurant in Savannah, and now he's officially shared the location.
Acheson, whose restaurants in Athens and Atlanta have propelled him to celebrity chef status, will open an Italian-inspired eatery called The Florence in the One West Victory mixed-use development.
The apartment/retail complex is going up on the former Chatham County Democratic Headquarters site at Victory Drive and Bull Street.
The Florence will measure 7,000 square feet spread over two floors and will occupy the yellow-brick building being preserved on the site.
According to a news release, "Acheson believes in the simplicity of Italian-style cooking and sourcing fresh, local ingredients. The Florence will offer vegetable courses, locally caught seafood, pastas and pizza made with Double Zero flour as well as a bar, patio and biergarten.
"The key for me is to blend the beauty of the South with the rich flavors of Italy," Acheson said.
"The philosophies of One West Victory align with my respect for the region's historical roots, and I am honored to be a part of this next great urban experience."
The complex, including the restaurant, are projected to open next summer.
