Louisiana native John Besh is an award-winning chef, cookbook author, philanthropist and restaurateur. Perhaps you've seen him on Food Network or as a guest chef on a host of other television cooking shows, and now you have a chance to meet him in person.
The former Marine turned culinary school graduate will be in Savannah on Dec. 16 signing copies of his new book, "Cooking from the Heart," at noon at E. Shaver, Bookseller, and then again at a signing and food tasting from 5-7 p.m. at The Paris Market.
The cookbook is Besh's third book and follows his other bestsellers, "My New Orleans" (2009) and "My Family Table" (2011).
"Cooking from the Heart" follows the story of Besh as he revisits locations and mentors that shaped his culinary journey from the Black Forest of Germany to the picturesque landscapes of Provence. The book contains 140 recipes and cooking techniques, and each chapter features a lesson learned and a personal story from Besh. The cookbook is also packed with beautiful photography to accompany each story and recipe.
According to Christina Gidden, store manager for The Paris Market, Besh will "be here to sign books and he and his team will have made desserts from recipes in the book, and we'll also have champagne and seltzers."
Gidden said she isn't sure what desserts they plan to make, but the choices range from Brown-Butter Caramel Tart with Bananas & Pistachios to Plum Tart with Streusel or Black Forest Cake.
She added the store will have all three of Besh's books on hand to sell.
"It's a time to mingle and have fun," she said. "I hope everyone will come out and join us."
The event is free and open to the public.
The earlier event at E. Shaver is only a book signing, but will give fans a chance to meet Besh and have their book signed.
