Meet Key'yanna Jones, fashion designer.

The 20-year-old from Hinesville isn't wasting time waiting for opportunity to knock.

She's already gone out the door to make the fashion industry sit up and take notice.

A graduate of Liberty County High School, Jones is the owner of Kandy Mixed Jewels LLC. She uses the motto "Sweet 'n' Sassy All 'n' One" for her trademarked clothing line, Ya'nique.

Jones already has her own website and business cards, and now she's about to have her first fashion show, "Bringing Mardi Gras to the Seaport," on June 15 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel.

"I started designing in high school," she says with a megawatt smile. "I always wanted to start my own clothing line in high school. I made my prom dress in high school and two pageant dresses."

One of the pageant dresses received an award.

"She does the design, makes the pattern and then makes the dress," says her mother, Kathy Jones.

As a child, Jones used to make things with her mother's help.

"We would cut out fabric," Kathy says. "She would cut out little purses."

Not surprisingly, Kathy is extremely proud of her daughter's ambition.

"I just want her to do whatever she enjoys doing," she says. "She was in middle school when she really started showing interest in fashion design," Kathy says. "People have been telling her she should apply for 'Project Runway.'"

Her passion for fashion grew out of a sense of need.

"We couldn't afford a lot, so I designed and made my own clothing," she says. "I wanted to start a clothing line after everyone told me they liked my designs."

Jones sees the fashion show as an introduction to her future in the fashion world.

Although she knows it is hard making a dream a reality, she is determined to reach the top.

Jones attends Georgia Southern University.

"After I graduate, I hope my clothing line takes off," she says.

"I'm doing this for my family so we can get out of the hole. Everyone says that's wrong, I should do it for myself, but I don't agree.

"I want to make it big and start a program for kids who have talent but aren't exposed to the industry."
