We've been watching over the years as Savannah's cultural calendar has expanded through the summer.
I know some people liked the fact the entire city seemed to grind to a halt for three months every year, but count me among those who are thrilled to have more reasons to venture out.
So if you're looking to do something beyond the usual Independence Day celebrations, you have plenty of options.
After the fireworks on July 4, Hang Fire at 37 Whitaker St. has a free show with KidSyc, DAMS and Electric Grandma.
The Sentient Bean, which has been one of Savannah's key venues in this century for singer-songwriters and other acts that aren't always a good fit for noisier clubs, will host Radio Birds at 8 p.m. July 5. There's a $5 suggested donation.
The Atlanta-based rock band will be playing a special acoustic set. The event is billed as part of the First Friday Art March, which has a variety of participating galleries and venues between Forsyth Park and Victory Drive.
The First Friday Art March has shined an appropriate spotlight on the growing artistic community in the neighborhoods south of Forsyth Park, but the event is hampered a bit by the distance between some of the venues.
On July 8, the rock band Trapt will be playing at Wild Wing Café in City Market. I'll confess to never having heard the band before, but someone has been listening.
The Los Angeles-based Trapt has been making music since 1997 and has accumulated more than 400,000 fans on Facebook. Trapt's video for "Headstrong" has more than 7 million views on YouTube.
Those are pretty stunning numbers by any measure.
Trapt is currently touring in support of its 2012 album, "Reborn."
This is a pretty big gig for a Monday night, especially in summer. Wild Wing's upstairs is a pretty good space for music, too, with a fairly large capacity and decent sight lines.
Maybe a good night for Trapt will translate into more touring acts being booked there.
