Top picks: Bacon Fest on River Street and more for your Savannah weekend

31 Aug 2017

Do editor Heather Henley joins Kim Gusby and Renee LaSalle on WSAV's "The Bridge" to preview the best the weekend has to offer. Read more in Renee's weekly column.

This week's cover story is all about the fourth annual Bacon Fest, which will be sizzling on River Street from Friday through Monday. Along with all those savory treats, you'll also find a kids zone, live music and college football projected on screens in the plaza. Get all the details in our story here

If you're hitting the road this Labor Day weekend, head down to Sea Island Resort on St. Simons Island for the Southern Grown Festival, which celebrates the great food and wildlife of the region. There will also be concerts with Drive-By Truckers and Grammy winners Steep Canyon Rangers, along with a host of other events. Get the full schedule here

See the video clip from Wednesday's episode of "The Bridge" here.

If you enjoy the annual Statts Fest each year (set for Sept. 23 at Grayson Stadium), don't miss the Statts Fest Pre-Game and Punk Rock Garage Sale on Saturday at The Jinx. This "fundraiser for the fundraiser" features local vendors selling their wares during the day and a bunch of fantastic music at night, including a rare hometown show for Savannah metal titans Black Tusk. Read all about it here

And finally, Savannah bluegrass kings City Hotel will be sharing their latest album with a concert Saturday at Service Brewing. Since it's Savannah Craft Beer Week (and state laws have changed to allow breweries to sell pints), it's a great time to celebrate not only great local music, but also those tasty craft brews! Read our interview with the band and listen to one of the new songs here

Look for Heather's weekend preview on "The Bridge" from 11 a.m.-noon every Wednesday on WSAV-TV or catch the live stream.
