On Oct. 26, artists and musicians will pack the Isle of Hope Marina and Paxton Park for the Isle of Hope Art and Music Festival.
What started as a small event in Ruth Wright's front yard to showcase members of the Isle of Hope Artisans' League quickly turned into a bustling event.
"We have one of the most beautiful places on Isle of Hope to live in, and we would like to celebrate that ... by having a fun day that is enriching for the mind, body and soul through art and music, but the bottom line is about just having a great time with old and new friends for the day," said event organizer Brigitte Szychowski-VanBaelen.
This year, more than 60 Savannah-based artists will present their photographs, paintings and original jewelry, alongside musical acts Velvet Caravan, Lauren Lapointe and The Train Wrecks, just to name a few.
A little something extra for the kids has been added to the 2013 festival at Paxton Park, where a Kids' Zone will include a chance to create projects from Savannah's Clay Spot and Scribble Art Studio. Wormsloe Historic Site will also host period-style games at the marina.
And best of all, aside from refreshments and art purchases, the festival is free.
"We like to introduce something new every year, and this year we focused on kids and family," said Szychowski-VanBaelen. "The support of our community has been overwhelming, which is noticeable through sponsorships, both monetarily and in kind, and it is what is making this event happen every year."
