Gather around the table - the games are about to begin.

GnomeCon 7, from March 2-4 at The Cottonwood Suites in Pooler, ushers in a tidal wave of gaming, cosplay and camaraderie.

Erica Wolfe, social media and volunteer liaison, said GnomeCon is a nonprofit, with a portion of the proceeds donated to Live Oak Public Libraries and Coastal Children's Advocacy Center.

Wolfe said GnomeCon is an all-inclusive event encouraging families, friends and lone gnomes to attend and play games together.

"This year we are happy to announce that we will have a very special guest, Richard Launius," she said. "He's a board game designer and will be available for attendees to get to play some of their favorite games, as well as some new games that have yet to come out, with the guy who actually designed them."

At its core a tabletop gaming event, the convention offers plenty of variety for gamers, including "Warhammer 40,000," "Necromunda," "Shadow Wars," "Rumbleslam" and "Deep Wars."

Along with the games, there will be mini painting and a kids' track for the young gnomes, Wolfe said. "And some returning fan favorites are the 'Professor Fear Quiz Show,' Odd Lot Improv Troupe and our Escape Room."

Wolfe said Envoy is running tournaments and demoing games all weekend, as well.

Noting several additions to Gnomecon, Wolfe said the Play to Win program offers gamers a chance to try new games and win copies of the game.

One of the favorite events every year is the cosplay contest. Special guests include Isaak Wells, an actor/voice actor whose credits include "Marvel Avengers Acedemy," "Family Guy," "Fallout 4" and "Something to Do with Love."

Returning to GnomeCon this year is Davey Beauchamp, an artist, podcaster, writer and librarian. Beauchamp's work was featured in Penguin UK/BBC children's books "Doctor Who, the Illustrated Adventures."

"The two 'Doctor Who' adventures he illustrated are 'Robot,' the first Tom Baker adventure as the fourth doctor, and 'Black Orchid' featuring Peter Davison, the fifth doctor," said Wolfe.

Wolfe said she never misses "The Professor Fear Quiz Show."

Todd Hanson and Cindy Hanson are returning this year as Professor Fear and Pinky. Their quiz show is a perennial favorite with fans.

"'The Professor Fear Quiz Show' is not just another nerd-convention panel discussion," said Todd Hanson. "⦠This is trauma on the stage. Innocent audience members are pulled out of the crowd only to be scrutinized by their peers. Will they answer the quiz question correctly?

"We have a great time with this show. It seems easy enough. We have been doing it for six years. I have no idea how it works. Thank god Pinky, my onstage supervisor, has more control over the situation than I do!"
