Mars Theatre in Springfield is scheduled to re-open Dec. 2 after renovations that expanded the stage area by 3,000 square feet.

The theater has been closed since Sept. 2 for construction. The expansion doubles the size of the stage and adds changing rooms, a green room, storage and restrooms in the stage area. Before, performers used make-shift changing rooms at City Hall and walked across the parking lot to the theater.

On Dec. 2, the theater will feature an a cappella holiday concert by the group Eclipse 6.

"It's going to be a great way to kick off the holiday season," said Allison Newberry, theater director. "The event is family friendly and you can expect to hear traditional Christmas songs, covers from other groups and originals."

The group's motto is "No Band. No Instruments. No Kidding."

"Just six microphones and a whole lot of sound," Newberry added.

Movies will begin Dec. 7, with "Wonder" playing through Dec. 16.

Live shows scheduled for 2018 include Rumours: A Fleetwood Mac Tribute, set for Jan. 27; One of These Nights: The Music of the Eagles presented by Statesboro native Russ Lanier and his Dark Desert Band on Feb. 10; Grand Ole Opry legend John Conlee on Feb. 25; Clovers & Co., the Georgia State 4-H show choir, on March 24; and Ray On My Mind on April 28.
