You may call it "the race where everyone has colored dust thrown on them," but the correct name is the Color Vibe 5K, and it is returning to Savannah.

The Color Vibe 5K will hit the streets at 9 a.m. Jan. 3 at the Savannah International Trade & Convention Center.

According to Color Vibe community outreach specialist Lindsay Judd, the run/walk is not your typical 5K.

"It's a way to get out and be active and to just have a chance to be outside and have fun - and have a little color thrown on you," Judd says.

"You don't feel like you're exercising, because we focus on the fun. It's a way to encourage people to get out and have fun."

The event is not timed, so people can take as long as they want, and children younger than 12 can participate for free. Teams are welcomed and fun is encouraged.

The race features Color Vibe's signature colored "dust," which is playfully thrown on participants throughout the course, creating a colorful wave of runners/walkers.

"We have new color cannons we are trying to incorporate into our races and we have a ton more color this year," Judd says.

Also, a portion of the proceeds from this year's 5K will be donated to the American Cancer Society.

"Everywhere we go, we choose a local charity so we can help out the community, too," Judd explains.

The event is open to people of all ages. Strollers are welcome, but Judd says to please leave your pets at home.

"Once everyone is done, we all meet at the stage and have a dance party and have color throws," Judd says. "The DJ will tell everyone to throw their color in the air, and it's just an awesome sight to see."
