The Savannah Philharmonic is once again gearing up for Savannah’s largest outdoor cultural event, Picnic in the Park, slated for Sunday, Oct. 7, in Forsyth Park. Savannah’s Philharmonic, a nonprofit organization, is inviting the public to help develop a celebratory themed slogan for the annual massive outdoor concert.

In September, the Philharmonic’s 10th anniversary season kicks off, so this year’s Picnic in the Park needs a slogan inspired by the number 10. This contest has been launched on the Savannah Philharmonic’s Facebook page, so anybody can enter the competition by submitting their ideas for a suitable theme. Simply search the Philharmonic’s page for the contest announcement and enter your slogan suggestion in the comments section of that post.

The contest winner will be treated to premier seating at Picnic in the Park, four tickets to the Holiday Pops Family Matinee concert Dec. 8, and will be invited to join the judging panel for the best picnic site contest on the night of the event. The winner also will be recognized on social media and on stage during Picnic in the Park. Entries may be submitted on the Savannah Philharmonic's Facebook page through July 31 for a chance to win.

In the spirit of the event, attendees are encouraged to bring a picnic, as well as participate in the themed picnic venue contest, which always results in many impressive and elaborate gourmet smorgasbords, accented by inspiring décor that cleverly reflects the theme.

Since its inception over 30 years ago, Picnic in the Park has served as one of Savannah’s most popular and well-attended community events. Over 18,000 people are expected to enjoy this year’s festivities, which are free and open to the public. New for the tenth season, there will be beverage and food vendors as well as food trucks for attendees to enjoy at the park.

The Philharmonic provides beautiful music for the evening. The Army’s 3rd Infantry Division Color Guard will also take part, and the 3rd ID will again provide their salute cannons as part of the program. The Savannah Philharmonic Orchestra will take the stage at 7 p.m., following an afternoon of lively performances by area school bands and choruses as well as local musicians.
