Do Savannah freelance contributor Niema S. Ross, 38, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, Oct. 28.

In multiple social media posts Monday, Ross' friends and family described her as a fierce, independent, beautiful woman who was always ready with a big smile, a genuine hug and her indelible laugh. She was a mother of three, a writer, a podcaster, a social justice warrior and an integral part of Savannah’s arts and music community.

Her infectious enthusiasm for life, art and music shined a light into the lives of many. Do Savannah offers our sincerest condolences to her family and friends. Savannah’s one and only "Metal Momma" will be missed greatly.

A celebration of life will be from 5:30-8 p.m. Nov. 2 at The Jinx on Congress Street. Open to ages 21 and older, guests are asked to bring a dish and memories to share.

A GoFundMe account has been set up to help the family at gofundme.com/niemaross.

Over the years, Ross wrote for Do on a variety of topics, from Vinnie Van Go-Go's anniversary to local musicians.
