Tybee Island MLK Parade and Human Rights Forum: 2 p.m. Jan. 12; Tybee Pavilion; free. The sixth annual Tybee Island Parade and Human Rights Forum, celebrating the legacy of Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. The Grand Marshal is Dr. Ann Levett, Superintendent of the Savannah-Chatham County Public School System. The parade begins at the Tybee Pavilion, proceeds down Tybrisa Street and 10 blocks on Butler Avenue, ending at the Tybee YMCA. Marching units include the Johnson High School band, the Savannah State University band, and the Savannah Conga drum corps.

Annual Chili Cook-Off with Sweet Tease: 8 p.m. Jan. 12; The Jinx, 127 W. Congress St.; free. The Savannah Sweet Tease Burlesque Revue is about to hit the road. The fourth annual chili cook-off will help raise  funds for their upcoming tour. Local dad punks Jeff Two Names and the Born Agains will play all the hits. Eat. Drink. Be merry. Support local artists.

Comedian Phil Perrier: 8 p.m. Jan. 12; Bay Street Theater, 1 Jefferson St.; $10-$15; savannahcomedyrevue; 314-503-9005. The Savannah Comedy Revue presents standup comedian Phil Perrier. Perrier has written monologue jokes for Jay Leno, David Letterman, Craig Fergusen and George Lopez. He’s a regular on Hollywood’s All Comedy Radio and has been seen on BET, Spike TV and The Arsenio Hall Show.

Velvet Gala: 5:30 p.m. Jan. 17; Cohen’s Retreat, 5715 Skidaway Road; $65; mediationsavannah.com. The Mediation Center of the Coastal Empire will host the second annual “Velvet Gala.” This fundraiser will feature live music, awards, a silent auction, heavy hors d’oeuvres and signature red velvet cupcakes. Guests are encouraged but not obligated to wear velvet attire, and this event raises vital funds to support the non-profit organization’s Youth Mediation Programs: Peer Mediation, BRAVE, and Community Conferencing.

Savannah Stage Company season announcement: 6 p.m. Jan. 12; Churchill’s Pub, Winston’s Wine Cellar, 13 W. Bay St.; free; savannahstagecompany.com. The Savannah Stage Company is announcing their 2019 season, themed the “Season of Bravery.” There will be food, drinks, music and a silent auction.
