Oatland Island Wildlife Center will host an Open Fire Cooking Workshop. Learn all about cooking over an open fire including: choosing and care of cast iron cookware, firewood selection and storage, charcoal cooking techniques, fire building, fun children’s cooking and recipes, and other topics.
Flannery O’Connor spring lecture series with Dr. Susan Copeland: 4 p.m. Jan. 27; Flannery O’Connor Childhood Home, 207 E. Charlton St.; free; flanneryoconnorhome.org. The Flannery O’Connor Childhood Home will launch its Spring 2019 Lecture Series with a free lecture by Clayton State University English Professor and Master of Arts in Liberal Studies Program Director Dr. Susan Copeland. Her lecture, entitled “Flannery O’Connor, the Goat Man and The Violent Bear It Away,” will identify and discuss a critical link between Flannery O’Connor and Charles McCartney, who was also known as the Goat Man.

I’m Over There,” an exhibition of new work by artist Marcus Kenney. This is Kenney's first major solo-exhibition in Savannah since exhibiting at the Jepson Center in 2007. Kenny will hold a talk on Jan. 24 in the gallery.

Model railroad and train show: 10 a.m. Jan. 26, 27; National Guard Armory, 1248 Eisenhower Dr.; $7 general admission, $5 seniors and students; free for children under 12 and active duty military. The Coastal Rail Buffs, Savannah’s model railroad club, will host the 30th annual model railroad and train show on Jan. 26 and 27. There will be dealer displays, merchandise and operating layouts.
