Arts at Messiah presents Fei-Fei Dong: 7 p.m. May 3; Messiah Lutheran, 1 West Ridge Rd.; Free. Award winning young pianist Fei-Fei Dong is expected to captivate her audience at the first concert in this year’s summer series of The Arts at Messiah. Known simply as Fei-Fei, her recital will feature works by Schumann, Beethoven, Rachmaninoff, and Chopin.

First Friday for Folk: 7:30 p.m. May 3; First Presbyterian Church, Stewart Hall, 520 Washington Ave.; 45 donation. Josephine Johnson will play two sets at this month’s First Friday for Folk concert, an eventing of acoustic music in friendly, alcohol free environment.

Savannah Jazz Fest’s Circle of Friends’ Rooftop Gig: 6:30 p.m. May 3; 300 Drayton St.; $75-$2,000.; www.eventbrite.com. The Coastal Jazz Association’s annual fundraiser, which helps alleviate the cost of hosting the annual Savannah Jazz Festival, an entirely free festival, will feature the Howard Paul Quartet and special guest. Food, drinks and a live auction will also be included.

Eyehategod, Ether, Slavegrave: 10 p.m. May 3: The Jinx, 127 W. Congress St.; $15 advance, $17 day of show. Legendary metallurgist Eyehategod return to Savannah this week. Along with Savannah bands like Kylesa, the New Orleans’ band created the sludge metal sub-genre. Florida’s Ether joins the bill with Savannah’s Slavegrave in support as well. A not-to-be missed show for metal heads.

May 5

Southern Holiday Jazz Band celebrates Carole King: 4 p.m. May 5; Unitarian Universalist Church, 311 Harris St.; $20; eventbrite.com. Carole King was one of the top inspirational voices for a generation of women who, throughout the 1960s and 70s, found liberation in the arts and in activism. She has composed music for dozens of artists, films, and television. She has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame, and has received the Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song and the Kennedy Center Honors – just a few of a very, very long list of awards. The Southern Holiday Jazz Band has entertained jazz lovers around Savannah as a duo, a big band, and every combo in between with swinging interpretations of standards and contemporary songs. Led by Jane Ogle vocalist, with Jeff Powell guitar, Marc Chesanow bass, and Judy Duva on piano, this band knows how to please a crowd.

May 6

Murphy’s Law: 9 p.m. May 6; The Jinx, 127 W. Congress St.; $13. Legendary New York hardcore punk band Murphy’s Law returns to Savannah. Former members have been in bands like The Bouncing Souls, Agnostic Front, Mucky Pup, Cro-Mags and Danzig.

Fabulous Equinox Orchestra featuring Gabrielle Stravelli: 7 p.m. May 6; The Peregrin rooftop bar at Perry Lane Hotel, 256 E. Perry Lane; Free general admission, $100 VIP. Award-winning vocalist and songwriter Gabrielle Stravelli has garnered critical acclaim and a loyal following through her rich sound, original compositions and her unique take on material from the Great American Songbook as well as by contemporary artists as varied as Willie Nelson, Joni Mitchell, Stevie Wonder and John Fogerty. She’ll join Savannah’s Fabulous Equinox Orchestra for a special concert.
