Savannah’s most anticipated fashion event is upon us.

Kicking off SCAD Fashion Week on May 16 is the Jewelry Trunk Show which will feature statement pieces and eclectic creations. All items and wearable art are created by Savannah College of Art and Design students, alumni, faculty and staff.

On May 18, the Savannah Static Showcase, an off-runway showcase of garments and accessories by top senior and graduate students, opens to the public. This must-see preview to the Savannah Runway Show gives you a closer look at the newest and next wave of designs.

The day’s events also include a conversation with SCAD Étoile honoree Phillip Lim. Lim debuted his brand, 3.1 Phillip Lim, in fall 2005, bucking the ostentatious runway trends of the time.

His line of youthfully elegant wardrobe classics with a twist was an instant sensation and adored by critics, editors and fashionistas alike. Widespread recognition of Lim's talent and other accolades quickly followed, including the 2006 Fashion Group International's Women's Designer Rising Star Award, the 2007 Council of Fashion Designers of America Swarovski Award in Womenswear, the 2012 CFDA Swarovski Award in Menswear and the 2013 CFDA Award for Accessories Designer of the Year.

After more than 10 years as creative director, Lim finds himself at the helm of a pioneering luxury brand of womenswear, menswear, accessories and shoes, making him one of the most talented and successful young designers today.

Also, on May 18 is the SCAD graduate fashion showcase and live runway show. This year the college has taken the show to a new venue. The Hive’s parking deck will serve as the newest backdrop.

The theme is chic meets street as the future of fashion ramps up the runway. This anticipated debut of premier SCAD senior and graduate student collections draws VIPs like Miss J Alexander, Derek Lam and André Leon Talley alongside next-wave fashion doyens who have designed for Alexander McQueen and Theory under Olivier Theyskens and are now at the helm of their own labels.

The event has become every local fashionista must-see event, but within minutes the show sold out; you can still watch live. SCAD will be streaming the fashion show in its entirety live at 5 p.m.
