Savannah’s Ghost Coast Distillery is set to release another bourbon and the public is invited to celebrate.
The Bourbon, BBQ and Blues Street Party will be from noon to 8 p.m. June 1 at Ghost Coast Distillery. According to Kelcie Beausir, Ghost Coast’s lead marketing coordinator, their newest bourbon, The Straight Bourbon Whiskey, is a traditional style bourbon, meaning traditional yeast is used to create this limited release spirit.
“For our first release, we used a saison brewers yeast which made the batch unique,” she said. “It had notes of butterscotch and caramel along with dried apricot and hints of cinnamon. This second release doesn’t have the caramel notes as much, but has some of that dried fruit notes.”
She said this special small batch bourbon is best enjoyed in classic bourbon cocktails, neat or over ice. But if you want to sample this latest creation, you may want to get in line at the party.
Beausir said the first release completely sold out in one month and is only available for sampling at the Ghost Coast bar. She added that they will also serve up specialty cocktails at Bourbon, BBQ and Blues that include bourbon as well as their vodka.
“This event is going to be like a summer block party,” Beausir said. “We’ll have a tent set up outside and our blues bands will be outside. It’s definitely going to have that block party vibe.”
Proceeds from the event will benefit the Two Hundred Club of the Coastal Empire, a local nonprofit that provides emergency and long-term financial assistance to the families of fallen first responders.
Beausir also said that they will release two more small batch bourbons: one in the fall and one in the winter. These releases are a combined sneak peek of what will lead up to their big bourbon release in 2020.
“These releases are all different from each other in taste,” she said. “So, you can taste them each individually and then we’ll combine them into our master bourbon that we will release in 2020.”
Admission is free to this block party event, which features BowTie BBQ food truck from noon-7 p.m., live music from Ben Keiser Band from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. followed by Cranford Hollow at 4:30-7:30 p.m.
