“There is so much turmoil in the world today — so much hate — so we decided we need to focus on love,” Linda Combs said.
That was the idea behind Love is in the Air and Silent Auction event set for June 22 at Asbury Memorial Church.
Combs is the director for the live music portion of the evening and Margaret Levy is organizing the silent auction. There will also be finger foods and refreshments served during intermission. The silent auction will feature mountain and beach vacation getaways, dining experiences, services and more.
She added the music portion is a combination of a full live band and concert pianist, along with some pre-recorded music. It will feature a variety of music genres, along with a hand-select group of local musicians and visiting performers.
“Everything is about love,” she said. “This will be a fun evening with love songs, famous lines from movies and just a variety of everything.”
Many of the songs performed are from films and Broadway and will feature a 1950s Love Song Medley including favorites like “So in Love” and “If I Loved You,” as well as “Love Story,” “As Long as He Needs Me,” “Something’s Got a Hold on Me,” “I will Always Love You,” “Viva Las Vegas” and more.
Proceeds from the evening will benefit the Asbury Mission and Outreach Program, which Combs said is a fund dedicated to helping “people who can’t help themselves.”
“The money will be put in a good place to help others from the community or from our church when they need it. It’s important for us to be able to help others when we can.”
