If chosen, you’ll have the chance to attend "I Pagliacci" on either Aug. 23 at 7 p.m. or Aug. 25 at 2 p.m. You’ll be treated to double-feature performances of “I Pagliacci” and “The Birthday Clown.”

A co-production with opera Orlando, “I Pagliacci,” tells the story of Canio’s troupe of commedia dell’arte who have come into town to entertain the village. However, Nedda’s restless spirit and dangerous liaisons lead to Tonio’s wrath and the troupe’s ill fate. This great work by Leoncavallo offers an earthly look at humanity, jealousy and revenge.

Coupled with the famous work, Savannah Opera offers its third original commission as part of a collaboration between Savannah Classical Academy’s String Ensemble and the Savannah VOICE Festival entitled, “The Birthday Clown." This opera is a lighthearted, 20-minute opera “short” written by Savannah VOICE Festival’s composer-in-residence, Michael Ching, about a struggling magician and the life he laments.

This session has closed.
