Eater has announced its list of 38 Essential Restaurants in America, and a Savannah star made the cut.

“After 34 weeks of travel, eating almost 600 meals in 36 cities, this annual guide is a distillation of the foods and the communities that Eater Restaurant Critic Bill Addison has witnessed. The one-word mantra that steers his thinking, and also the city-based Eater 38 maps upon which the list is modeled, is essential. Each year the list changes substantially though not entirely. This time around we welcome 17 newcomers and as it happens only five standouts remain from the original list Eater published in January 2015,” according to an Eater press release.

Savannah is represented on the list by critically acclaimed The Grey, 109 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd, Savannah,

Of The Grey, which was Eater’s 2017 Restaurant of the year, Addison says in part: “Mashama Bailey culls Southern port city flavors into a jubilantly personal expression, with triumphs like salt-preserved grouper on toast and quail scented with Madeira.”
