I’d write about the public hearings for the school tax increase held Wednesday, but since the community wasn’t interested, why bother? • News that the United States would host World Cup 2026 excited, if for no other reason than the fact the host country gets an automatic bid, and our national team needs all the help it can get. Only Team USA isn’t assured a spot after all – the 2026 bid is a “united” bid among the U.S., Canada and Mexico, and soccer’s governing body isn’t sure yet how to handle the situation. Lord knows they won’t give three automatic bids to a 32-team tournament. But then they’ve never had three nations sharing hosting duties either. Let’s call for a summit right now between President Donald Trump, Canada’s Justin Trudeau and Mexico’s Enrique Peña Nieto -- with Kim Jong-un moderating. Such a meeting “would be huge.”
